TRANSFORMING FESTIVE TRADITION INTO AN IMMERSIVE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE
For the traditional Christmas tree lighting event in Manta, Ecuador, we developed a 2D mapping installation projected onto a giant LED cube that transformed the moment into an extraordinary and memorable visual experience for the entire community.
Every year, this event brings families and neighbors together to celebrate the start of the festive season, and our installation was designed to grab the attention of the locals with an impactful audiovisual piece that celebrated the magic of Christmas.
The centerpiece was the iconic face of Santa Claus, portrayed with his classic red hat, distinctive glasses, and unforgettable beard—an image that instantly sparked smiles and anticipation. Through carefully crafted animation, this digital Santa enthusiastically greeted the city of Manta, shared uplifting messages about the importance of unity and togetherness, sang Christmas carols, made thoughtful and playful gestures, and even included humorous moments like dozing off, creating an emotional connection with all who attended.
In addition to the projection, the design invited people to step inside the LED cube and take photos with Santa, turning the installation into an interactive experience that blended digital spectacle with physical engagement.
Each sequence was designed to build a smooth, engaging, and energetic visual narrative, making the most of the LED format’s scale and potential and offering a spectacle that captivated both young and old.
The result was an audiovisual piece that not only accompanied the tree lighting ceremony but became part of the collective memory of those present, showing how digital art can elevate community celebrations into unforgettable experiences filled with light, emotion, and holiday spirit.
